Professional Year, also known as the Job Preparedness programme, is a standardised career preparation curriculum that aims to improve a student's ability to achieve jobs in their chosen discipline by using specific skills and experience of the Australian workplace and community.
Combines advanced education and on-the-job training.
Teaches learners how to interact efficiently in the workplace in Australia.
Includes an internship to familiarise participants with all facets of working activities in Australia.
Should be carried out in the applicant's designated professional profession or a similarly associated occupation.

Who can enrol in this program?
To be eligible for the Professional Year programmes, you must have studied in Australia and completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme. You must also meet all of the conditions mentioned below.
Qualifications and education
Applicants must have completed a Higher Education degree in Australia, in a course that offers two years credit points for a period of 18 months; and have qualified from a course that appropriately suits the Professional Year programme to which you wish to apply.
Applicants must be in possession of, or have applied for, a subclass 485 Temporary Residence visa. They may be on a Bridging or Student visa, but they must have applied for and shown documentation for the 485 visa. For the length of the Professional Year scheme, 485 visa holders must have a valid visa.
Evaluation of Ability
Both candidates must receive a positive ability assessment from their respective judging bodies (ACS, EEA, CPA, IPA and ICAA).
To be considered for a professional year, applicants must have a minimum overall IELTS test score of 6.0 and no less than 6 in each band.
